Dr Núria Casamitjana Badia is Director of Training and Education at ISGlobal and Professor at the University of Barcelona. She holds a B.A. in Pharmacy and a Doctorate from the University of Barcelona, and a Master’s degree in Occupational Health from the University of Barcelona - University Pompeu Fabra.

She has over 30 years of experience as professor and researcher in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Barcelona; as a BA, MSc and PhD lecturer; and as a senior manager at the University of Barcelona. In 2006 she was responsible, together with Dr Pedro Alonso, for the creation of the Barcelona Centre for International Health Research (CRESIB). She held the post of Deputy Director of CRESIB from its creation until 2011. In 2010 she also contributed to the development of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal).

Dr Casamitjana has held key senior management positions at the University of Barcelona, including the vice-presidency and presidency of the Health Sciences Division, and post of University vice-chancellor between 2002 and 2005. She has undertaken numerous outreach activities promoting global health programmes within the scientific community, academia, and civil society; and she has also coordinated education and training programmes in global health as well as capacity strengthening activities, including Europe, Latin America and Africa.

Currently, Dr Casamitjana is co-Director of the ISGlobal-University of Barcelona Master of Global Health programme and Coordinator of the International Health track Master of Clinical Research. She also coordinates the Trans Global Health Erasmus Mundus Joint PhD Programme and the track on International Health of the Medicine PhD Programme at the University of Barcelona. She has also coordinated other specialized courses in different topics regarding global health, including the leadership courses on Science of Eradication: Malaria together with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health an Swiss TPH; and on Safe Mothers and Newborns together with the Maternal Task Force at the University of Harvard and the University Aga Khan.

She is currently serving as President of tropEd, International Network for Education and Training in International Health, and as a member of the executive board of the World Federation of Academic Institutions for Global Health (WFAIGH). She is also involved in the network Consortium of Universities for Global Health and Coordinator of the European initiative EIT-Health Education pillar at the University of Barcelona. Since 2015 she is Board and Executive Committee member of the Partnership for Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (PMNCH) representing the Academic, Research and Training institutions.

Dr Casamitjana has been an evaluator for the “Agencia de gestió d’ajuts universitaris i de recerca” (AGAUR, the agency of the regional Government of Catalonia for university and research scholarships/grants) and more recently for WHO-TDR and EDCTP programmes.
