Pema Lethro

Program Officer at Ministry of Health


Mr Lethro is a 35 year old who joined the Ministry of Health as assistant planning Officer in 2009. During his tenure in the policy and planning division he was assigned the role of private secretary to health minister from 2010-2013. From 2013 till 2014 he studied for Masters of Public Health at the University of Western Australia, Australia. In 2016 he was appointed as the program officer for reproductive maternal and neonatal health program under the department of public health.

His current responsibilities include the coordination of stakeholders, planning and preparation of annual work plan, completion of activities on time and realizing the set targets and goals. He is further focused on monitoring activities and programs implemented by districts and community health units at the grassroots.

Currently, given the maternal deaths due to Postpartum Haemorrhage and Newborn deaths due to prematurity, sepsis and congenital anomalies, programmatic interventions such as institutionalization of PPH drill in all the health centres and early essential Newborn care and kangaroo mother care are underway in partnership with WHO, UNICEF and other developmental partners.
